7 Things You Should Never Tell A New Mother, No Matter How Seasoned A Parent You Are

Having a newborn is no simple task for both parents, especially the mother. Carrying additional weight in your tummy for 9 months is no joke, what’s more, after the baby is born. From getting used to new routines to enduring sleepless nights, it can take a toll on your mental and physical health. If you’re a new mom, the experience can be very overwhelming because your body is still recovering from the physical pain of childbirth, while the chores continue to pile up with limited help around.

Of course, this is when your understanding partner plays a vital role juggling work, the new baby and your well-being. It will take a while until you and your partner get a grip on the daily practices and routine which balance out the time for your baby and yourself. Until then, know that it’s a common situation that you’re in. Every struggle, internal cry, and frustration is very temporary and you shall sail though them smoothly in no time.

Knowing how vulnerable new mothers are, it’s wise to refrain uttering things that could make them feel worse. Give your words a quick scan before saying them out loud. Check if your words will hurt her feelings, make her feel she’s not being a good mother, make her feel she’s not doing her best, make her and her partner argue, etc.

Here are other things you should NEVER tell a new mom, no matter how experienced you are. If any of these sound like something you or someone you know would say, it’s time to have a reality check.

1. Your baby’s not gaining weight, maybe you’re not producing enough or quality milk

6. Be glad you have a husband to help you with baby duties and changing diapers. During our time, we had to do it all by ourselves with no help!
