Engraved messages or illustrations add a personal touch to watches to commemorate or capture any significant events or milestone in an individual’s life but ever wondered how long does it take to master the art of engraving?
When it comes to watch engraving there are only four master engravers at Jaeger-LeCoultre as we discovered last night at the Swiss brand’s Secrets of Engraving Soiree at Starhill Gallery. At the soiree, Jaeger-LeCoultre flew in one of their master engravers from Switzerland for an enlightening and intimate session.
He has been engraving beautiful works of art at Jaeger-LeCoultre for 10 years and to create beautiful pieces, time is of the essence. Simple designs can be completed in two days while more complex and intricate ones can take up to three weeks.
If you’re wondering how does one train to become a master engraver, it takes five years of general training where the candidate learns about painting and drawing plus an additional three years to specialise in the art of engraving.
Jaeger-LeCoultre offers a wide variety of engraving from gem-set engraving to enameled creations.
