Of all a woman’s makeup bag favourites, mascara has to be the most irresistible. Mascara is an accessory that nearly every woman uses and simply cannot do without. Mascara is the key to sparkling eyes, and its unique power stems from its instant results. It is both a weapon of seduction and an object of fascination – it lengthens, curls, thickens and separates lashes.
Though it is the best-loved makeup product, it is also one of the trickiest to master to its fullest potential. Curved and round, the eye is the most multi-dimensional facial feature, with many hard-to-reach areas.
Generally speaking, women find it easier to make up the eye that is on the same side as the hand that is applying the mascara. When applying to the second eye, Lancôme observed that women use three techniques: crossing the brush over the nose, turning the wrist to reach the eye on the other side and switching to the other hand.
The Lancôme solution to this problem is a next-generation mascara combining a brush with high-tech bristles with a revolutionary curved stem.
Lancôme reinvents the architecture of the mascara stem with the Swan-Neck™ wand. Short and twisted, it has the ideal shape to adapt to the eye’s curves. The Grandiôse brush is precisely positioned along the eye contour to follow the eye’s architecture and access all the lashes from corner to corner and root to tip. Curved at 25° to its axis, the stem also adapts to the contours of the face.
With its short elastomer brush, Grandiôse allows for optimal formula adherence and glide. Small in diameter, it is designed to extend and lift the lashes, creating a perfectly open, full and even lash fringe. Shaped like half petals, its bristles allow the brush to hold the formula perfectly, grasping and coating every lash from root to tip while separating the hairs.
Combined with a colour-amplifying polymer, the ultra-black pigments of the Grandiôse formula form the heart of its incredibly intense black colour. The formula also holds perfectly for a full 24 hours. A ground-breaking complex featuring the Lancôme Native Rose-Cell Extract™ works to leave lashes suppler, softer and more resistant, for a denser and thicker lash fringe.
The Grandiôse bottle with its voluptuous curves is a luxurious jewel. Dressed in a deep black, it subtly transforms into a smoky graduated effect. The emblematic Lancôme rose is seen gracefully coming to life within the semi-transparency. The wand’s dual curve allows it to automatically mix the formula every time you open the bottle. The brush caresses the bottle’s inner wall from top to bottom in a rotational movement.
To apply, position the brush at the root of the lashes. Work the lashes starting at the outer corner of the eye moving inward, rotating your wrist and extending through the lashes using a zigzag motion:
- Start by applying mascara to the outer corner lashes on the upper lashline. To do so, hold the wand with the curve facing down and wing-out the lashes.
- Slightly rotate the wand between your fingers a third of the way round: the brush naturally positions itself horizontally over the central third of the eye.
- Work in a slight sideways oscillating movement from left to right, pressing the brush closer to the lashline and lifting up the lash fringe from the very start of application. Lift the lashes up.
- Once again rotate the wand another third of the way round, positioning the brush over the remaining inner third. Naturally tilted, the brush is now pointing towards the nose. Extend the lashes inward.
- Work in exactly the same way on the lower lid.
The wand’s twisted architecture offers complete access to all three application techniques, making it easier to apply mascara to the second eye. Thanks to its unique shape, the wand is easier to cross over the nose to apply mascara to the first 2 thirds (outer and central). Turn your hand slightly for the inner corner.
It is definitely time to forget fast, jerky and repetitive movements. Go for slow, regular strokes to ensure good formula distribution from root to tip.
