Strawberries
Where to go: England
The best time to go to England for strawberries is during June to early August. It doesn’t really matter if you love your strawberries with a dollop of cream or on its own, if you’re a foodie then British strawberry is a must during summer. Chocolate
Where to go: Belize
If you can’t get enough of chocolate and it’s pretty much your favourite sweet thing, then Belize is the place for you to book your next flight to. The Mayans apparently stuffed their face with chocolate during every meal, but just because you’re in Belize doesn’t mean you have to do what the Mayans do. What you could do is sign yourself up for one of the two annual chocolate weeks that’s held by the eco-friendly Cotton Tree Lodge. During the guided tour you can learn how the traditional Mayan cacao drink is made and you’ll also meet artisanal chocolate makers. You can even make your own chocolate and learn all things chocolate!
Oysters
Where to go: Prince Edward Island, Canada
The best time to head on down to Prince Edward Island for some oysters is during the summer months of July and August. This is when the taste of this favourite aphrodisiac item is at its strongest. You and your beloved can even make things official by taking an ‘oyster oath’ and be inaugurated into the Prince Edward Island Oyster Society.
Avocados
Where to go: San Diego, USA
Even though you can pretty much get avocados everywhere, the best has been said to be in San Diego and there is no best time to go there because it’s all year round! For over 50 years, fans of the green fruit have been meeting up during the Fallbrook Avocado Festival, which is of course held in San Diego. While you’re there, you can pretty much eat all the guacamole you want, try some avocado fudge and buy some avocado-shaped souvenirs to take home. Try the Peohe’s restaurant, which overlooks San Diego Bay. While you’re enjoying the view, you can also feast on some crab and avocado.
Basil
Where to go: Chiang Mai, Thailand
If you’re a basil aficionados, you might want to enroll yourself at the Thai Farm Cookery School. The stunning culinary school lets you enjoy a day class in an inviting kitchen garden. While over there, you’ll be given a tour of the stunning farm that grows both sweet basil and holy basil, which you will use during class to get your herbal knowledge started.
Wine
Where to go: France
The best time to head to France for some wine is during May. If you’re there, head to Médoc in south-west France to try some of the available wine at the wine estate, Château Mouton Rothschild. Make sure you book way in advance to get a spot on one of the cellar tours at this highly-prized Bordeaux wine-maker. Once you’re in there and sipping that first Cabernet Sauvignon, everything will be worth your while.
