Recently, Lipstiq had the pleasure of interviewing the latest MMA fighting sensation, Song Ga Yeon, a.k.a  MMA’s Most Beautiful Fighter in the Road FC promotion, who became popular for the Korean reality TV series, The Roommate.

Unlike most MMA fighters, Song Ga Yeon sure does have a pretty face to match with her impressive fighting skills. Her highly anticipated fight is scheduled to air on September 26 on KIX HD (ASTRO Channel 729) and before then we thought we’d ask her a few questions:

Why did you decide to leave The Roommate?
I’ve always wanted to be a serious MMA fighter. Road FC and I didn’t expect this much attention from the public when I first appeared on TV. I would consider other careers in entertainment perhaps in the future but at the moment my number one priority is to be an MMA fighter.

Why did you decide to become an MMA fighter?
I was already trained in fighting sports like judo and kick boxing for about 2-3 years independently since junior high. When I graduated high school, I wanted to join the military but when I joined Road FC, I changed my option.

What are the challenges of being involved in the sport?
Being a woman MMA fighter, people do not take me seriously and think I pretend to be interested in fighting.

What is your training regime?
I’ll train at the gym at 11am then have a break for lunch. In the afternoon, I will practice on my sparring exercise with the guys as in Korea there are not many female fighters. At 4-5 pm, I will practice by myself for wrestling. In total, I train roughly 5-6 hours a day, daily.

Do you hope to be a role model to girls?
Initially the guys were fans of my fighting but these days I feel there is more support from women.

What do you plan on doing when you retire from MMA?
I haven’t thought about it yet. For now, I want to be a serious MMA fighter first. I can’t tell for now but maybe I’d like to be a part of the entertainment industry.

You can catch Song Ga Yeon’s debut for Road FC 017 on Friday, 26 September at 10pm on KIX HD (Astro Channel 729).
