On the yearlong adventure of places to go and people to see, Kate Spade New York’s Fall season collection is inspired by travels to Asia.
First, the Kate Spade New York girl heads to Tokyo where fast and exciting new technologies co-exist with ancient traditions. The collection is inspired by high speed flashes of color – electric blue, metropolis green and shocking pink – popping out against grey, black and porcelain; relaxed rules and silhouettes.
The next stop is Shanghai. In a city surrounded by skyscrapers, the world is seen through the smoky haze of a bygone era on the bend – shades of beige, rose, and orient red; florals and birdcages; and art deco details in glorious metallics.
The season’s journey ends with a trip on the Transcontinental Express. It’s the idea of old world train travel that inspires the collection. The prints and the color palette stem from long, lazy days and nights staring up at the sky and details inspired by dining cars, telegrams and luggage bags.
Handbags
Kate Spade New York introduces the Alice Street collection, a group of pebbled leather top handled satchels offered in the Adrianna, and the small Adrianna with cross body strap – both available in neutral hues of warm putty and color-blocked pebble and black. The Alice Street group is also available this fall in luxe Italian hair-calf. These bags are finished off with a large buckle detail and designed with travel and utility in mind.
The Cedar Street collection returns with updates including patent leather, prints, and graphic color blocking. The Cedar Street Dot collection is introduced in the classic small harmony, small pearl, and margot styles. The Cedar Street Patent group includes sleek bags in dynasty red, black, and rose water in a new variety of shapes and sizes. The new standout silhouette of the season is the pearl, a larger version of the small pearl with adjustable shoulder strap and zip top closure.
Kate Spade New York also brings delight to the collection with cheeky bags and clutches. The Hello Tokyo group features novel clutches in the lucky cat, zena, and bento box styles. Hello Shanghai features a patent leather scalloped fan clutch, the Milan, a Chinese take out box, the Cruz, and a birdcage bag in luxe textured suede, the Pollie. The All Aboard group is inspired by the transcontinental express, with a clock cross body bag, train clutch, and the emanuelle box clutch finished off with gold detailing.
Ready-to-wear
Inspired by bright lights and vibrant hues, the Tokyo collection features items in emperor blue, metropolis green, and vivid snapdragon. A graphic cyber cheetah print is seen on the avery pant, feti coat, box pleat skirt and sweatshirt. The collection features an array of separates in easy silhouettes including oversized cardigans, full skirts, slouchy sweaters, and punchy coats.
Influenced by the art deco elements of Shanghai, the collection offers delicate, feminine pieces with ornate details. The soft rose print is featured on the china watercolour coby dress and kaci skirt. The palette of the collection includes a range of blush and ‘stoneware’ tones, mixed with cream and navy, black, as well as dynasty red. The deco dot, a playful new take on the polka dot is printed on dresses, coats, and pants. Coats come in a variety of styles from the wool capelette in dynasty red, the daphne coat in camel, and the rossalyn coat in beige leopard. The collection also includes a delicate scallop lace embroidery that adorns a top as well as the virgina dress.
The Transcontinental Express collection features a myriad of pieces that were inspired by the glamour of old world train travel. Blurred hues of rich navy and deco beige are reminiscent of the night time sky, coupled with a signature autumn leopard print and a blue check. The Jacques coat, an oversized, boxy double-breasted wool coat is a must have this season for brisk fall days. The genni sweater with leather detailing on the shoulder, the aura sweater with zippered sides, and the alpaca double pocket sweater with leather pockets are amongst this season’s essentials. New to the collection is a slouchy silk blouse that is a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down.
Jewelry
The Kate Spade New York jewelry collection features strong statement pieces this season. The Bright lights group features statement earrings, bracelet, and statement necklace in a multi glass stone. Songbird features birdcage designs in glass stone and gold plated metal on drop earrings, a charm bangle and pendant necklace. A standout group of the season is the Boxcar Chain, three statement pieces crafted from thick gold plated metal woven together and emblazed with pave crystals – available in a mini necklace, bracelet, and necklace. Finally, the Parlour Pearls features strands of pearls woven with together with back glass stone and gold plated metal.
Footwear
For Fall 2014, the beloved pointed pump is introduced in a new style, the Laylee in saffiano patent, available in a variety of colours with a chunky jewel-encrusted embellishment on the toe. The classic Licorice returns this season, updated in new all over glitter colours of rose pink, red, and black. Inspired by menswear, two new flat styles are introduced this season, the Pitch loafer and the Pella oxford.
Aside from the Fall collection, Kate Spade New York also celebrates the year of travel by heading to Las Vegas and outer space for the Holiday season. November products feature a flurry of marabou feathers, glitz and glam. Also, December is inspired by the painterly mix of moody clouds and hazy glow of Saturn’s stripes.
Signature to this collection are different takes on the little black dress, from an embellished drop waist dress, sequin fringe mini dress, bow back fit and flare, and peplum gisele dress. Other key dress styles include the regal plumes jacquard dress in a luxe metallic jacquard fabrication with an in house developed feather print, the swift dress in rosy down and chianti color block, the joss dress in a blue dusk cloud print with a zippered front, and the holiday stripe dress with different scaled stripes in rich navy. Must-have separates include a leather circle skirt, leather estella pant, all over sequin corrina top and aurora borealis tweed top.
The handbag collection features key novelty styles alongside classic carry over styles and the return of the nylon heritage group. The champagne bucket tote is the ideal bag for any holiday party. The emanuelle book clutch gets updated as a queen of spades card, while Kate Spade New York introduces other whimsical bags including a rocket clutch and crystal embellished tiger clutch. A revival to the heritage bag, the new nylon collection features nine bag styles including the boxy quinn and duffle shaped lyla. An elevated addition to the nylon group is the “classic nylon jewels”, adorning these two statement styles with beaded embellishments.
Key gifts this holiday season include the cedar street mini maise, updated in a range of seasonal colors in a petite size. Gem erasers, confetti card sets, multi glitter resin coasters, acrylic painted vases, gift wrap, ornaments and initial card holders are perfect gifts for anyone on your list.
