Sea Salt Spray for Soft Curls
What you need: –
- Spray bottle
- 1 cup hot water
- 1-2 tsp sea salt (more for a beachier look)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil, argan oil, or ½ of each
- ½ tsp leave-in conditioner
- dab of pomade or water-based gel
Method
- Add the hot water to the spray bottle.
- Measure out and add the ingredients.
- Shake it up. A minute or two should do the job.
- Spray liberally to towel-dried hair.
- Scrunch, scrunch, scrunch. Try putting your hair in a big, loose braid for a while, or put your hair on top of your head in a loose knot while it dries. When it’s almost dry, let your hair down, scrunch some more, and let it completely air dry.
Aloe Vera Spray to Soothe Your Sunburn
What you need: –
- 1 large aloe leaf (or 1/2 cup pure aloe gel)
- 3 tbsp coconut oil, melted
- 1 tbsp vitamin E oil
- several drops of peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil
- a blender and vegetable peeler
Method
- Over a cutting board or another mess-proof, stable surface, peel the skin of the leaf until you’ve uncovered a decent amount of gel.
- Scoop out the gel with a spoon into a measuring cup. You may encounter some of the sap — a watery-looking substance — but you can just shake out the leaf over the sink to get it out of the way. When you have harvested half a cup of gel, either discard the leaf or scoop out the rest of the gel and store it in the fridge for future use.
- Add the rest of the ingredients into the measuring cup.
- Pour the contents of the measuring cup into your blender, and blend away until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into an empty spray or squeeze bottle.
- Apply on nasty burns and embrace that sweet, cooling relief.
A Cellulite-Busting Coffee Scrub
What you need: –
- 1 c coffee grounds
- 6 tbsp coconut oil
- 3 tbsp sea salt or sugar
- empty jar
- dry brush (optional)
Method
- Measure out the dry ingredients and combine in a large measuring cup or bowl.
- Melt the coconut oil in the microwave if solid, and add to the mixture.
- Mix well.
- Transfer contents to a waterproof jar or container.
- In the shower, apply your scrub onto areas with cellulite. Massage the scrub onto the skin in circular motions before rinsing. Do this once or twice a week.
Lighten Hair Colour with Lemon
What you need: –
- 3 large lemons
- 2 bags of chamomile tea
- 1 tsp of ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp almond oil or coconut oil
- an empty spray bottle
Method
- Boil about 1 cup of water and add the tea bags. Set aside to steep for a few minutes.
- Squeeze those lemons. You should get about 1/3 cup of juice. Add into the spray bottle, straining out any seeds.
- Measure out the cinnamon and almond oil, and add that into the spray bottle, along with the brewed tea (without the tea bags). Seal the bottle shut, and shake it up.
- Spray the areas of your hair you’d like to lighten.
- The longer you hang outside under the sun, the lighter your strands will become!
Makeup Remover Pads
What you need: –
- 3 tbsp jojoba oil
- 1 tbsp witch hazel
- 1 cup water
- 1 package round cotton pads
- 1 small glass jar or container with a seal-tight top
Method
- Measure out the water and add the oil plus witch hazel.
- Give it a good stir. The oil and water will separate, but combine as much as possible.
- Pour a couple tablespoons or so of the mixture into the bottom of the jar.
- Take a stack of about five cotton pads and press them down into the jar, until the liquid has been soaked up.
- Stirring to keep the mixture combined, pour another small amount of liquid over the cotton pads. Add another stack of five pads, press down, and then flip over the entire stack of cotton pads so that the driest pad on top is now at the bottom of the stack.
- Repeat this step — by pouring a little liquid, pressing in new pads, and flipping the entire stack — until you’ve filled the jar.
