The 2014 MTV VMAs kicked off with a bang at the ‘Fabulous’ forum in Inglewood, Southern California with a stellar performance by Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj.

Thanks to our friends at MTV Asia, we were fortunate enough to spend the morning at their Singapore office to watch the live show which was anything but dull.

So without further ado, check out the winners list and the most memorable moments from the show.

1. When Beyonce received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award

Queen Bey’s performance was highly anticipated and boy, she did not disappoint one bit. Not only did Bey delivered a memorable performance, the cherry on the cake was when hubby Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy joined her on stage to hand her the award. Needless to say, it was an emotional night for the superstar. Suppose this will put all those divorce rumours to rest.

2. Rita Ora’s reaction to Nicki Minaj’s performance

Now, everyone knows that the VMAs is known for controversial performances and this year, that award goes to Nicki Minaj’s performance of her new single, “Anaconda”. In true Nicki Minaj fashion, she put on a snakingly shocking show. For proof, be sure to look at Rita Ora’s priceless expression.

3. Katy Perry and Riff Raff channeling Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake

Katy Perry and current beau Riff Raff took inspiration from one of the most talked about couple once upon a time – Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Although this double denim ensemble wasn’t Katy’s best style effort, it definitely got people talking. We don’t know about you but we’re super curious to know what Brit thinks!

4. Miley Cyrus did not twerk…but she cried

The fact that Miley did not twerk this year calls for a celebration but when she won Video of the Year for “Wrecking Ball”, the controversial star sent a homeless boy by the name of Jessie to deliver a speech about the plight of homeless youth upon which she started shedding tears. It’s a noble gesture and we’re leaving it at that.

5. Nicki Minaj’s on-stage wardrobe malfunction

Nicki definitely had a lot happening at the VMAs this year. While performing “Bang Bang” with Ariana Grande and Jessie J, Nicki emerged holding onto her black plunging dress from overexposure. Ironic or what?
