We’re pretty sure you’ve seen this all over Pinterest and Tumblr! If you don’t know what Brandy Melville is, it’s a cult favourite clothing label that’s popular for girly dresses, quirky graphic print crop tops and of course, the Brandy Melville signature wooden signs (look at the pic below!!) that are displayed all over the stores. We’ve got no access to Brandy Melville here in Malaysia, but we thought we’d recreate the wooden sign to be used as a cute statement home decor piece. Ours says WILD CHILD and we’re totally happy with how it turned out! Interested in making your own? Scroll down for the tutorial. 😉

You’ll need: Wooden planks, acrylic paint, masking tape, ruler, pencil, scissors, stencils, paint brush or sponge brush

Step 1: First off, go to your computer and print out some stencils. Decide on what you’d like your wooden sign to display. Then, you can either go on Microsoft Word, type in your word or words of choice, choose your font and font size, and print it out, or go onto Google Images, search for any graphics you’d like, save it, adjust the size of the image and print it out. Don’t forget to make sure that the stencil fits nicely on your plank of wood! Begin cutting out all the letters or graphics and take your time to do this. You want to be as detailed as possible to ensure that the letters and graphics would show up nicely on your plank of wood.

Step 2: Use your masking tape and section off about half an inch at each side of the plank, then paint it in the colour of your choice. We also painted the sides of the plank for a cleaner look. Quickly remove the masking tape to reveal your crisp and straight lines. Let the paint dry for a couple of hours before continuing your project.

Step 3: Now, play around with the stencils to figure out where you’d like to position your letters and graphics. Then, tape everything down carefully.

Step 4: You can now begin sponging or painting with the stencils as your guide. Make sure you get every nook and cranny, and don’t take up too much paint at once, or else the paint would bleed through the stencil. When you’re done, just let it dry for a couple of hours.

You can now display your wooden sign! 😉
