What was meant to be a relaxing vacation for a couple, took a tragic turn when a South Korean doctor drowned while snorkeling at Pulau Perhentian Besar on Tuesday.
Kim Byung Rim, 40, of Daejeon and his wife, Lee Yong Joo who is also a doctor arrived at the island together for a beach holiday. Besut police acting chief DSP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that Kim was enjoying himself in the sea, snorkeling with a life jacket before he made a decision to take it off and swim towards Shark Point.
“When the other tourists came ashore, Kim was not with them and his wife alerted the others and they went in search of him,” said DPS Noorzainy. He also stated that they found Kim floating in the water at about 3.30PM and was immediately rushed by boat to a clinic on the island.
His wife, Lee said that the couple came to the island for a getaway after being told of its beauty and were meant to leave for Korea via Singapore on Wednesday
According to Bernama, Kim’s body will be transported to Kuala Lumpur, thanks to the help of officials from the South Korea Embassy.
