Meet Duke Roberts, and be sure you have a box of Kleenex next to you as we tell the story of his last day as a happy dog through these photos.
On his last day, Duke ate lots of hamburgers and laughed.
He also thought about how much he would miss this place he’s about to leave behind.
Duke also spent time with some lovely people that he has made friends with.
There were also some serious moments.
The twins that live next door came to visit Duke and even politely declined when offered hamburgers saying, “No thank you. I don’t want to take any from Dukey.”
Duke’s groomer and buddy, Kristen came to visit him too.
While waiting for the vet to arrive, Kristen suggested that Duke and herself to go for a walk. Then, someone suggested that they head on down to the splash park.
Duke also gave everyone looks that told them he would most definitely miss them all.
Duke reminded Kristen to look after his family because that is all he wanted.
Duke had a blast at the splash park.
Duke smiled from happiness whilst having fun at the splash park.
He had too much fun at the splash park and was grateful for every second.
While hanging out in the park, Duke could hear kids playing in the distance and thought about his own family and how much he loved to protect them.
Duke was also able to relax on that day.
Despite the tumor having grown so big, Duke didn’t feel any pain.
Duke really felt the love on that day.
Duke’s beautiful friend Kira also said goodbye and she was able to see him jump and be happy before the doctor told them that it was time.
Duke didn’t say goodbye though, instead he said ’til we meet again.
Even though their time was short, Duke knew he was lucky. His family gave him a second chance and they really lived it up in each other’s company. They loved the way he looked at them and he will never ever stop doing so.
