Are you a smoker? Have you been waiting for the right time to give up the nasty habit but can’t seem to be able to? You know that there are plenty of  health benefits that come with quitting smoking but there also quite a few misconceptions about it.

So, if you want to kick the habit for good, here are some of the common lies told, which you should look out for:

1) Gaining Weight

So, they say if you quit smoking, you are most definitely gonna pack on a few pounds. Despite popular belief, cigarettes actually make you gain weight, not the other way around. Why do people keep believing this myth? Because some do tend to snack on unhealthy food to compensate for smoking. But there are ways around this!

2) Shisha/Hookah Is Better Than Cigarettes

You might think that a bubblegum-scented shisha or hookah is less harmful than cigarettes, but it’s actually worse. Not only does smoking this popular water pipes increase exposure to cancer-causing carcinogens but it also drops your blood pressure, leaving you to feel dizzy. Also, sharing a mouthpiece can pass around infections and that’s just nasty!

3) E-Cigarettes Will Help

You can’t start smoking one type of cigarette to quit another. That’s just silly and it’s a proven fact that those who use electronic cigarettes to kick the habit are less than likely to quit.

4) Quitting Is Expensive

You might use the excuse that quitting is expensive because of having to purchase nicotine patches, gums and etc. Truth be told, these things are quite costly compared to a pack of cigarettes, but if you took time to do the math, you’ll see that in the long run you are actually saving money, and the nicotine patches and such will be paying for themselves.

5) Years Of Smoking Can’t Improve Health

Wrong! Just twenty minutes after abstaining from cigarettes, your heart and blood pressure drops. Not only that, your lung function and circulation will improve after a two to three months. After a year of quitting these nasty sticks, you can cut the possibility of getting heart disease by half and that’s plenty of health incentive to quit.

6) Stress Would Be Harder To Cope With

This is completely false. Smokers that quit the habit do experience some form of anxiety but it doesn’t last for long as this is just another way of coping with breaking the habit. Your smoke breaks might have helped you to de-stress in the past, but there are other ways to take a break and free yourself from the weight that work has on you.

7) You’ll Lose Your Sense of Creativity
If you think that you’re doing yourself a favour by smoking in the morning to get your creative edge on, you’re not. Smoking can actually make you perform far worse than you actually are capable of. Smokers are also more likely to fall ill and be on sick leave, therefore stopping you from actually getting work done.
