KL Lookbook: Amy Yasmine

Look 1: Top – Zara, Skirt – Shoes, Shoes, Shoes, Shoes – Charlotte Olympia

Name: Amy Yasmine

Age: 24

Occupation: Editor-in-Chief at The List Magazine and Fashion Consultant

Look 2: Top – Zara, Bottom – My Apparel Zoo

Describe your personal style: I think it’s pretty eclectic. It’s hard for me to describe my personal style as I can be dressed in a Slayer t-shirt paired with a gold midi leather skirt, or a cropped kimono top and checkered culottes the next. I took Film Studies as an elective at university and a lot of what I put on myself resembles a mood from a film, but perhaps the only constant is juxtaposing trends and patterns – a massive departure from when I thought the colour gray was too adventurous for me.

Look 3: Top – Comme des Garçons, Overall – ASOS, Shoes, Dries van Noten, Hat – eBay

What do you think of the KL fashion scene: It has changed quite dramatically since I was last back in 2012. It’s great to see so many trends (even the odd kooky ones) being embraced here in Malaysia – a sure sign that the industry is moving in the right direction. That said, with the industry still having a lot to learn, it needs to realize the importance of it growing organically without forcing it to compete with established markets too fast. There are times when you see a certain trend being pushed too far (fur/winter coats in a tropical country – quite questionable) and you really wonder if the industry itself is pretending to be something it isn’t quite ready to be. Despite it all, it makes me happy and proud to see Malaysians pushing the envelope in the style stakes. It shows that we have a voice, and we’re not afraid to voice it out.

Look 4: Top – ASOS, Jeans – Zara, Shoes, Giuseppe Zanotti, Hat – eBay

Your favourite place to shop: Zara and ASOS are my staples.I can’t say I’m too proud of this, but speak to any of my friends and they’ll say I’m addicted to online shopping. Etsy for one-off handmade items, Opening Ceremony, Farfetch, Luisa via Roma, Shopbop, Net-A-Porter, Brown’s, Matches and Avenue 32 are some of my favorite places to shop online. However, when I’m abroad, Machine-A, Liberty and Selfridges in London are my usual haunts while Colette, Le Bon Marché and Merci are a must in Paris. In hindsight while saying this… I think I may have a problem.

Look 5: Top – stylenanda, Skirt – Zara, Shoes – Miu Miu
