From the 18th to the 22nd of June, Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready-to-Wear (KLFW) returned for the second year at Pavilion KL and the 5-day excitement was indeed worth the wait. Tons of local designers as well as a few international designers showcased their collections while leaving the audience in awe of the amazing artistry and creativity seen on the runway. If you’ve missed out on KLFW this year, here’s a round-up of some of our favourite looks from the designers we’ve watched!
Joe Chia – With tons of structure, innovative use of fabrics and inventive layering, Joe’s looks were clean and each one was well-constructed. The colour palette only consisted of mostly black and grey, but look closely and you’ll find that every look has its signature focal point that varies from another.
Silas Liew – First off, we loved the muted colour palette running throughout the entire collection. The looks were strong, and had their own uniqueness worth-mentioning. From flowy loose-fitting cuts to very structured form-fitting ones, the designer proves that he can perfect it all.
Sleeping Pills (Thailand) – Whimsical, fun and polished, this Thai label really did not disappoint as we admired the clever use of colour, prints and the mix of different fabrics. Our favourite ensemble would definitely be the one with the structured, matching pastel-accented blazer and pants with clever sheer panels, paired with the dusty blue bralet with a cute triangular keyhole.
Dude & Duchess – Love! Although mostly monochromatic with hints of colour, we took the time to study the asymmetrical cuts of some of the designs, as well as the complex use of fabrics in very edgy, straight-forward looks.
Ezzati Amira – Ezzati certainly left the audience mesmerized as the models showcased her expertise in playing with various fabrics as most of the looks were put together with different fabric combos. We love how clean and contemporary her looks were, making them ideal for the modern woman.
Harvee Kok – With a mix of flared and boxy silhouettes, this collection stood out for its unique detailing and very urban ensembles. Although mostly monochromatic and neutral, the colour palette really made the entire collection coherent.
Justin Chew – Clearly street-wear-inspired, this designer’s looks were very easy-going, well-engineered and extremely wearable. We loved the structured silhouettes and sporty accents seen throughout the collection!
Ophelie by Sean Loh – This newcomer did an amazing job with his collection, which was cohesive and made a statement indefinitely. We loved the look of the structured fabrics and heavy gold embroidery that was just outstanding.
Tsyahmi – From neutral coloured fabrics to occasional prints here and there, Tsyahmi’s collection was simple yet modern and very effortless. What we thought stood out most were his skirts and dresses that moved graciously in the air, while being strong and energetic.
Alia Bastamam – No matter what you’re looking for, this collection has everything. From athletic-inspired casual wear, form-fitting structured looks to glamorous floor-length gowns, Alia Bastamam wowed us with impressive versatility in her work.
Innai Red – We really appreciated the bright colours and prints that were going on in the beginning of the show! It then slowly transitioned to more casual chic looks and finally, there were some elegant dresses and exquisite yet dramatic gowns.
Haflins – Modern, sophisticated and very feminine, this collection showcased a healthy variety of looks. Besides flared silhouettes, pops of colour and structure, there were also several glamorous evening wear dresses as well as edgy and more refined looks.
