“Unbelievable! It’s already 10pm and there are still people queuing up for this?!”
Whoever who said that, it must’ve been coming from someone who’s ever so patiently waiting in line to enjoy a soya-based iced dessert that has taken Kuala Lumpur by storm.
Barely a year ago, Snowflake opened its doors to primarily college students in Subang Jaya, right opposite Asia Café. The customers were largely skewed to those of the young adults and teenage market. The Taiwanese dessert is perhaps our modern version of the Malaysian dessert, “cendol”.
But that, of course, is merely a poor comparison. Why?
Snowflake doesn’t use any animal by-products or animal-based additives. The fact that it is a halal dessert means that just about anyone can enjoy desserts that “hit the spot” minus the guilt. The main ingredients used are grass jelly, red beans, sweet potatoes, yam, and seeds stacked on top of shaved ice (if you opt for the cold ones). Yes, you could say that they are mostly organic ingredients. And yes, you could say that it’s not all that bad for your diet.
On top of that, they have a variety of “series” on their menu to choose from. They are:
1. Grass Jelly Series
2. Taroball Series
3. Soya Ice Series
4. Snowflake Bestseller (served hot or cold)
5. Memorable Series
6. Tohua Series
And the selection never ends. Heck, you can even request for additional toppings (e.g. green beans, lotus seed, pearl, peanuts, sweet potato, red beans, kidney beans, etc) for a small price.
Each bowl of Snowflake dessert start from prices as low as RM5 (in a big black bowl) and above, depending on which ones you choose or what additional toppings you want – considerably affordable (even for college students), if you ask us.
For return customers, the sweet Taiwanese “designer dessert” place also offers a little loyalty card that has “boxes” to collect 10 stamps (one stamp per RM5 purchase). Once the card is filled, the customer enjoys redemption of one free item on his/her next visit.
By the way, our personal favourite is the cold “Snowflake Bestseller’! Have you been? No? Then hurry over and for once, we’re going to say, jump on the Snowflake bandwagon! Trust us; it’s not something that you will immediately regret.
