Famed poet, activist and author Maya Angelou died yesterday at her North Carolina home after suffering from heart problems for a long time. She was 86.
“She’d been very frail and had heart problems, but she was going strong, finishing a new book,” Angelou’s agent Helen Brann said. “I spoke to her yesterday. She was fine, as she always was. Her spirit was indomitable.”
Now, a literary voice revered globally for her poetic command and commitment to civil rights has fallen silent, but her legacy will live on forever.
She leaves behind tons of artistic work that influenced several generations. Many who knew her thinks of her as a kind person and a woman who pushed for justice, education and equality.
Many celebs such as Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, Ellen DeGeneres and Cyndi Lauper took to social media to pay their respects to the respectable and inspiring Angelou.
