Well whaddya know it’s Friday again! Time to unwind, slip off the office pumps and put on some colorful espadrilles or comfy Crocs. Whether you’ll be out partying for the weekend, chilling with friends over a game of Scrabble at your place or taking a long drive nowhere with your other half, there’s always a soundtrack for everyone.
1. Sheryl Crow’s All I Wanna Do
“All I wanna do is have some fun, I’ve got a feeling I’m not the only one,” sings Sheryl and that’s what weekends are all about. Crank up this song with your girlfriends and sing your heart out as you get ready to paint the town red.
2. The Cure’s Friday I’m Love
Before we had Ms. Perry and Ms. Black redefining Friday, there was The Cure singing about how the other days of the week paled in comparison to the glorious Friday. Forgive me if I say that their version was the bomb. If only they made music today like they did in the 80s.
“I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday, I’m in love”
3. Ray LaMontagne’s You Are The Best Thing
Don’t know about you but it makes me feel on top of the world to be told I’m the best thing to ever happen to anyone. Well, doesn’t happen often but it still feels as good when it’s a song. Let Ray’s raspy voice soothe the holes in your soul along with jazzy beats. This song was featured in the movie “I Love You, Man”
4. Modest Mouse’s Float On
‘I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off sometimes life’s ok
I ran my mouth off a bit too much oh what can i say
Well you just laughed it off it was all ok”
Is it me or is Isaac Brock’s idea of bad luck a little extreme and off kilter? Here’s a list of things that happen to him: He accidentally hits a police car, he and his significant other get fired from their jobs on the same day, and a guy impersonating a Jamaican scams him. Good song to head bop to nevertheless.
5. Lily Allen’s Fuck You (Very Much)
The end of the working week means two days away from annoying bosses breathing down your neck. Despite the very vulgar F word all over the chorus, it’s actually a very fun song to sing along to that by the end of it, you’d be all giggly instead of being the angry person you were at the beginning.
6. Clara Chung’s Offbeat
Clara is wonderful gem I discovered through Michelle Phan’s famous YouTube makeup videos and I just can’t get enough of the both of them. As tiny as she looks, Clara has a huge voice and music that will sweep you off your feet. Offbeat is a happy, summery tune with an easy to sing chorus (play the song and you’ll know what I mean!) that will surely have you in love by the end of it.
