Sulaiman Abdullah, a veteran lawyer will be replacing the late Karpal Singh as Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s lead counsel for his impending Sodomy II appeal, confirmed a source.
Sulaiman who previously led Anwar’s defence team during the beginning stages of the trial in 2009, discharged himself from all pending cases as his health worsened.
The source, who is also working on the case told a local newspaper that Sulaiman agreed to replace Karpal, who passed away in an accident last Thursday.
“But Karpal’s firm will still remain as the solicitors, and his son Ramkarpal is still one of the main counsels in the case,” said the source.
Ramkarpal has decided to file the petition of appeal against Anwar’s conviction on Thursday, to seek more time, added the source.
