When Uniqlo launched their latest collaboration with Ines de la Fressange, it wasn’t one of those crazy collection launches where people queued up for blocks. Nor was it one of those launches that had an ostentatious count down or campaign. It was simple, straightforward and downright easy. Guess you can say the same about the clothes which is a reflection of the simplicity of Parisian chic.
I remember reading about Ines de la Fressange when I was a kid, flipping through my mother’s fashion magazines. If you don’t know who she is, Ines is a French aristocrat, model (who became Karl Lagerfeld’s muse until an argument made them part ways), fashion designer and perfumer.
Split into four lines – Bleu, Blanc Parisienne; Note Parisienne; Souffle de Parisienne and Petite Parisienne – Uniqlo’s collaboration with Ines is the highlight of the brand’s Spring Summer 2014 campaign. What we love best about this line is the understated style that each garment possesses. It’s wearable and functional, and if you’ve ever been to Europe and wondered why French women are effortlessly stylish, here is the answer – less is more and Ines conveys that message beautifully through her collaboration with Uniqlo. Did we also mention that the price point is incredibly affordable?
Bleu, Blanc Parisienne
The colours of the French flag inspire this line. Expect a Parisian touch on Uniqlo staples such as polo shirts, Oxford shirts, chinos and jeans. Our pick from this line would definitely be the Linen Blended Jacket which is preppy enough for work yet casual enough for weekends. Available in late March.
Note Parisienne
The best way to describe Ines’ Note Parisienne line is Parisian chic. If you’re looking for that Little Black Dress that will never go out of style, look no further. With black dominating the colour palette in this line, you’ll be sure to find refined French pieces that will always be your go-to item in times of a fashion crisis. Be sure to check out the wrap dress in this line. Available in late May.
Petite Parisienne
Daily workwear gets a floral twist and dash of patterns in this line. Classic cuts and time-honoured silhouttes are given an update, be it rounded collars or hidden floral motifs under the sleeves. The vintage-inspired frocks are a standout and they double up as great vacation pieces too! Who says work clothes have to be boring? Available in late March.
Souffle de Parisienne
Soft, comfortable and quick-drying, Souffle de Parisienne is all about loungewear. Perfect for exercise, yoga or just lazing around at home, the clothes in this line are made with fabrics that won’t cling, ensuring comfort and easy movement. Available in May.
Exclusively at UNIQLO Fahrenheit88, the collection will be available in Malaysia from 28 March 2014. Selected lines will also be available at KLCC.
