If you own a smartphone, you probably know the sinking feeling of leaving your house, only to realize that your battery is almost dead. Then, anxiety hits you.
But, all this is about to change as an Israeli startup company claims to have created a battery pack, called Storedot, that can fully charge your phone in merely 30 seconds.
Premiered on Monday, the pack depends on microscopic magnets called “nanodots” to enable its game-changing charger.
Sadly, you shouldn’t expect to see this charger any time soon. It is still in the prototype stage and a company spokesperson says mass production won’t commence until 2016.
As of now, Storedot faces two major challenges – attempting to shrink the technology so that it’d fit in existing smartphone designs and how to lower the cost of the device.
However, Storedot is confident that “nanodots” signify a huge opportunity for the future and not just in terms of charging phones. These “nanodots” could also revolutionize TV displays, digital storage, bio-medical technology and batteries.
