Just last week, we had the opportunity to learn a few beauty secrets from Mary Kay‘s affiliate makeup artist, Seo Hee Young, who also happens to be an internationally renowned Korean celebrity makeup artist who has worked with stars like Park Shin-Hye, Yoona and Soo-Young from Girls Generation, and plenty more.
She dished some tips and tricks we can all use when it comes to makeup application, and boy, did we learn a lot! When asked about how Korean women have such glowing skin, she attributes it to thorough cleansing, intense hydration on the skin, regular sheet masks and drinking tons of water. Read on below:
1. Korean women care for their skin like no other. Well, to have good skin, you gotta work for it, right? Most Korean women use five to seven products on average and evidently, this works wonders judging from their flawless skin. Be strict with yourself when it comes to your skincare regime and you’ll reap what you sow.
2. When it comes to makeup, less is definitely more. The Koreans believe in enhancing natural beauty for a 3D look with very clear skin, so they don’t tend to pile the products on. This then also goes to show why they religiously take care of their skin.
3. These women love bright, luminous and hydrated skin, so perfecting the base takes up the most time. After applying moisturiser, brush on the foundation on the outer perimeters of your face. Then, get hold of a damp sponge and gently tap repeatedly on the skin to distribute the product towards the centre of the face.
4. To maintain luminous and glowing skin, Korean women really minimise the use of powders on the face, so lightly dust finishing powder on your T-zone only and leave the rest of your skin as it is.
5. Instead of a shimmery highlighter, use an emollient lip balm above the cheekbones, on the tip of the nose and to highlight underneath the eyebrows as well as the inner corners of the eyes.
6. To keep your eyeliner from smudging, get a little face primer on a small makeup brush and pat over the eyeliner to lock it in place. You can also do the same for foundation with a damp sponge and a little bit of primer. It works like magic!
