Justice will always prevail.
Fong Kong Meng, 58 and his wife Teoh Chin Yen, 56 have been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of their Indonesian maid.
The couple were found guilty of murdering Isti Komariah, 26, at house No. 90, Jalan SS2/6, Sea Park in Petaling Jaya between May 14th, 2010 and June 5th, 2011. Justice Datuk Noor Azian Shaari said in her judgement that the victim died of starvation as a result of the couple’s failure to provide her with food and medical treatment.
She also noted that the victim’s weight dropped from 46kg when she first started working for the couple to 26kg at the time of her death. Judge Noor Azian said the defence failed to counter the prosecution’s submission on the cause of the victim’s physical condition and death. The defence’s own submission was also nothing but a denial of the charge.
The trial which started on July 30th, 2012 saw 16 prosecution witnesses called and six defence witnesses testify.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Nordin Ismail, Suzana Abdul Latif and Muhammad Asyraf Md.Kamal represented the prosecution while counsel Zaleha Al-Hayat and Thong Seng Kong defended the couple.
It was reported that the victim from East Java started working for the couple in December 2008. Her employers took her to the University of Malaya medical centre in Petaling Jaya on June 6th, 2011 where she died upon arrival.
