Looking for the perfect finishing powder to seal in all of my makeup has been quite a daunting task, especially when I tend to get greasy on my T-zone during the day. With powders, it’s always trial and error, and what works for your skin may not work for mine even if they’re highly raved about. Hence, I have ended up trying tons of powders that are now just laying at home as they didn’t do me any good.
I’ve never gotten a chance to try any popular mineral makeup before and when I stumbled upon bareMinerals READY Touch Up Veil Broad Spectrum SPF15 finishing powder, I was a little sceptical about it. All I knew about mineral makeup is that it’s formulated with simple ingredients and apparently, it’s also healthier for the skin. Let’s see what I thought about my first mineral makeup product.
Firstly, here’s what the website says about the product.
What it is:
An innovative concept in solid mineral technology formulated with rejuvenating sea minerals.
What it does:
Created through a unique cold-pressed method, bareMinerals READY™ SPF 15 Touch Up Veil combines its proprietary SeaNutritive Mineral™ Complex composed of positively charged sea minerals with antioxidants and cold-pressed grapeseed oil—ingredients known to deliver antiaging benefits for softer, smoother skin with sun protection. This formula diffuses the look of imperfections and reduces shine for an airbrushed finish.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Fragrances

Upon removing the product from the box it came with, I instantly fell in love with the packaging. It’s black, sleek and most importantly, it’s very sturdy. Once you lift up the cover, you’d be able to see a nice big mirror and a sponge-like powder puff. The powder is also covered with a plastic film.
The first thing that bothered me about the product is the scent. Although it’s scented with floral oils, it smells nothing like flowers. Instead, it has this heavy fake plastic scent that bothered me a lot. As I swirled my makeup brush into the powder, I could see specks of the powder everywhere and this dirtied up the packaging.
When I applied it, the powder did an amazing job of mattifying my face. Although it did give me a slight white cast, I can say that this is the best powder I have ever used that controlled the oils on my face so well. Usually, I would have to do touch ups every three hours or so and blot off any extra grease on my skin. With this powder, I wore it for over eight hours and I only needed to blot my T-zone once. The staying power is fantastic and it’s perfect for my combination skin.
However, I didn’t fancy the feeling of the powder on my face. Upon touching my face right after application, it felt significantly powdery and I could literally feel it between my fingers. I also tried blending the product into my skin even more just so it would feel smoother, but to no avail. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to wearing mineral makeup, but do all mineral makeup feel powdery? Let me know in the comments section below!
Overall, I would still use this powder as I find it really does help to keep my face matte, takes away the shine and it does give me a somewhat airbrushed finish. For its staying power and impressive results, I guess I could look past the feeling of it on my skin and the horrible scent of the product. It isn’t my favourite powder, but I reach for it regularly because I know it performs well on my skin.
