Poor Robin Thicke! Looks like the 36-year-old singer has a bunch of young haters at Boston U!
A group of Boston University students are saying that they in fact don’t “want it”. A petition calls for the school to cancel an upcoming concert by the singer on the university’s campus.
They claim that the Grammy-nominated hit Blurred Lines promotes misogynistic messages that clash with the school’s culture of sexual violence awareness.
As of Thursday morning, they have gathered at least 1,4000 signatures, asking the university to cancel his performance, which is supposed to be on the 4th of March.
“Having Thicke perform is a political statement that is out of touch with the realities of sexual violence and Boston University’s own history,” states the petition. “Thicke’s hit song Blurred Lines celebrates having sex with women against their will. Lyrics such as, ‘I know you want it,’ explicitly uses non-consensual language.” You can read the full petition here.
The group also announced that it will be staging a protest outside the Agganis Arena on the day of the concert. Apparently, the song promotes rape culture and many people are concerned.
We wonder what Thicke’s next move is going to be…
