Are you struggling with frizzy, brittle and dry hair? These hair types are a cry for hydration and nourishment. To make your hair somewhat manageable, it’s vital that you cultivate a habit to attend to your hair religiously to repair it. Most women prefer to visit salons every other week to get chemical-based hair treatments, but that wouldn’t be very affordable. Hence, we’ll show you five ways you can naturally nourish your hair at home, with simple ingredients that are probably already laying around in your kitchen.
1. Banana mask
Banana isn’t only great for your body, it’s also amazing on hair as it softens and moisturises. Mash two ripe bananas in a bowl to your best ability, or use a blender if you’ve got no time to lose. Then, add two tablespoons of honey into the mix and apply this generously on your hair, starting from the scalp and working your way to the roots. Wrap your hair in a plastic wrap or shower cap and use a hair dryer to add a little bit of heat to your hair. This will ensure that the mask works its magic by penetrating the hair cuticles. Let is sit for 20 minutes, then shampoo and condition as usual.
2. Apple cider vinegar rinse
Apple cider vinegar is not only great for smoothing out frizz because of its acidity, it also adds shine to your hair instantly. After shampooing your hair and rinsing all the shampoo out, pour the apple cider vinegar over your hair, making sure to cover all of it. Let it sit for 30 seconds and rinse out with cold water. Condition your hair to get rid of the smell of vinegar.
3. Hot oil massage
For hot oil treatment at home, mix 1/3 cups of coconut oil and olive oil, as well as 3 teaspoons of almond oil in a metal bowl. Then, place the bowl over a pot of boiling water to melt and heat up the oils using indirect heat. Make sure that the oils are warm and not hot, then rub the oils onto your scalp and hair. Massage it in gently and wrap your head in a towel for 20 minutes. Wash with a clarifying shampoo.
4. Avocado mask
This is almost like a real conditioner for your hair. Avocado contains fatty acids that will help smooth out frizz and olive oil has amazing hydrating benefits. To use this mask, just mash up one whole avocado and add a two tablespoons of olive oil, then mix it well. Apply the mask to your hair and leave it for 30 minutes to an hour, then rinse off thoroughly.
5. Honey rinse
Honey adds moisture and it’s full of antioxidants as well as nutrients to nourish, add shine and encourage hair growth. Mix 1/4 cup of honey with 2 cups of water to thin the mixture out and pour it over your hair. Rub it in and let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse out. You can also use it as a last rinse after shampooing your hair.
