If you haven’t got a Valentine’s gift in hand and you want to create something on your own, try your hands at this simple DIY string canvas art! Not only is it a perfect gift of love for pretty much anybody, the person who receives this piece of artwork can display it in their homes as decor. Here’s how:

materials

You’ll need: Nails, a heart template, a hammer, scissors, coloured yarn and canvas

1

Step 1: Go to Google Images and get an image of a heart big enough to fit on your canvas. Print it out and then cut out the heart shape. Position it in the middle of your canvas.

3

Step 2: Start by hammering down the nails along the outline of the heart shape, placing them about 1cm apart. Make sure that the nails are secure, but be careful not to hammer through the back of the canvas.

5

Step 3: When you’re done going through the entire outline, it should look something like this.

9

Step 4: With the yarn, tie a double knot on the nail at the tail of the heart and make sure it’s secure. Next, pull the yarn taut and go around the nails at random, creating a web in the middle of the heart. Make sure you pull tight and continue going around the nails.

14

Step 5: When you’re satisfied with your web, use the yarn to go around the outline of the heart to complete your shape. Finally, pull your yarn back to the starting point and tie another double knot to secure your artwork.

16

You’re done! 😉 The possibilities are endless and you can use whatever shapes, letters or numbers you’d like. You can even create one with your anniversary date on it for a more meaningful gift.
