MTV today announced that it is teaming up with its recently named Best Artist of 2013, Miley Cyrus for one unfiltered and unforgettable evening on MTV Unplugged. Fans will not want to miss this as MTV hands over its celebrated “Unplugged” stage to Cyrus, whose delivered two of the most talked about performances in recent years during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and 2013 MTV EMAs.
As part of MTV’s Chinese New Year Special for fans in Asia, Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged will premiere online on this website from 31 January to 7 February 2014, with the on-air premiere taking place on Saturday, 15 February at 7.30pm (WIB), 8.30pm (SIN/HK/PH) and 9.30pm (MAL).
The performance will showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus and feature surprise guests for a reinvention of the songs that have defined her career, including some from her #1 critically acclaimed album, Bangerz. The Unplugged stage will serve as the perfect platform for her to show viewers what inspires and ignites her music and her passions.
“The Unplugged stage has been home to some of the most iconic live performances of all time,” said Amy Doyle, EVP of Music and Talent Programming Strategy for MTV. “Miley’s vision for the performance is like nothing we’ve ever seen. I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable Unplugged performances to date.”
Cyrus has dominated both the charts and headlines as of late. Her album, Bangerz, debuted at #1 on both the Billboard Top 200 Chart and Digital Album Chart in the U.S., in addition to hitting #1 on iTunes in more than 70 countries. The album’s first two singles, “We Can’t Stop,” and “Wrecking Ball,” topped charts around the world.
In addition, she showcased the recording of the album during an original MTV documentary “Miley: The Movement.” Next, Cyrus will embark on the highly anticipated Bangerz tour. The 38-city tour will kick off on Valentine’s Day (14 February) in Vancouver, BC and visit cities throughout the United States and Canada.
Since its debut in 1989, “Unplugged” has been a cultural watershed of musical moments, featuring unforgettable performances from artists including Nirvana, Jay-Z, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Adele and Florence + The Machine.
