We’re just a day away from starting the celebration for the Lunar New Year, and we all know that we’ll be packing on some weight from eating! While some are organizing open houses to invite friends and family, others prefer to have their gatherings outside. If you want to know the best place to treat yourself to a Chinese cuisine during this festive season, TripAdvisor has shared a list of Kuala Lumpur’s ten restaurants that have gotten the best reviews from its readers.

1 & 2. Din Tai Fung (Pavilion KL and The Gardens, Mid Valley City)

Their Xiao Long Baos (steamed soup dumpling) seem to be one of the popular items on the menu, and you must be prepared to wait for tables as the restaurants are usually packed with diners. Their overall food ratings are good, and service seems to be quick.

3. Shang Palace, Shangri-La Hotel, Jalan Sultan Ismail

Shang Palace gives a modern twist to the culinary traditions of Southeastern China, and gets excellent reviews for its dim sum.

4. Fatty Crab Restaurant, Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya

Although the restaurant itself resembles a normal coffee shop, it’s always filled to the brim with customers. Reviews rave about the spicy chili crab and chicken wings.

5. Hakka Restaurant, Jalan Raja Chulan

Foodies looking for authentic Hakka cuisine should head here. Their steamed cod fish in soy sauce seems to be a favorite among diners. The restaurant is also praised for its reasonable prices and huge portions of meals that are suitable for big groups of people.

6. Lai Po Heen, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jalan Pinang

Lai Po Heen is famous for its modern Cantonese cuisine set in a restaurant with an open kitchen. It’s helmed by Ricky Thein, an award winning chef, and is opened for breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner. Be prepared to fork out a bit more for the food here, though!

While you’re enjoying the traditional Cantonese cuisine here, you’ll also be entertained by a traditional Chinese ‘Yangqing’ music performance. Must-trys here are apparently their dim sum and Signature Durian Pudding.

8. Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Jalan Sultan Ismail

Also serving Cantonese food and famous for its dim sum, Celestial Court impresses its diners with good quality and service. They change their menu offerings quite often, so it’s always worth to go there to try new creations.

9. Overseas Restaurant, Jalan Imbi

Established over 30 years ago, Overseas Restaurant is famous for its Char Siew (barbecued pork) and Roast Pork. It can get pretty crowded during lunch and dinner hours.

Sek-Yuen

10. Restoran Sek Yuen, Jalan Pudu

This no-frills Cantonese restaurant is family-owned and is well known for its food that is cooked on firewood stoves. Although traditionally decorated, quality of dishes have good ratings from reviewers.
