I have been an avid user of BB creams for a long time now because they’re lighter than foundation but yet still provide me with the coverage and skin-correcting properties that I need for my skin. When I heard about CC creams, I was under the impression that they were the same as BB creams. Well, I found out I was wrong after doing some research.
After using Ole Henriksen’s Perfect Truth CC Creme for a week now, I can say that I pretty much prefer BB creams over CC creams. However, this is the first CC Cream I’ve tried on my skin, and my thoughts on this product shouldn’t be the case for all other CC creams in the market today. Here are my thoughts on this highly raved about product.
What it is:
A supercharged skincare multi-tasker with makeup benefits that brightens, protects, and perfects in one simple step.
What it is formulated to do:
Get your daily dose of essential moisture, a protective antioxidant veil, and SPF defense to ward off environmental aggressors and counteract premature aging. Five sources of vitamin C and tripeptide-5 expertly blended with nourishing ceremides and sodium hyaloranate visibly reduce discoloration and fine lines while plumping and firming the look of skin. All whipped up in sheer illuminating coverage and a velvety nourishing texture that melts into skin to diffuse imperfections, skin clarity, resiliency, and radiance improve instantly and over time.
What else you need to know:
This product instantly perfects the following – illuminates with light-reflecting pigments; diffuses flaws with sheer illuminating coverage; nourishes with sodium hyaluronate and ceramides; and protects with Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It corrects the following over time; brightens and fades dark spots with five sources of vitamin C; reduces redness and calms with green tea extract; minimizes the appearance of lines with tripeptide-5; and prevents free radical damage with ferulic acid, a powerful antioxidant.
When I pumped out the product, my first thought was that the product looked way too orange for my pale fair skin. As you can see in the photo above, the cream has a heavy orange tint to it. As for its consistency, I’d say that the cream is slightly thicker and less creamier than BB creams.
When I applied it, I didn’t fancy the feeling of it because the cream felt a little grainy and rough on my skin. Because of its slightly thicker texture, I also needed more than one pump of the product to cover my entire face. What I loved about it is that the product is perfect for my oily combination skin because it looked very matte but still allowed the light to shine through on the high points of my face.
However, I felt like it didn’t cover much of my imperfections, such as the spots and redness on my skin. For the reason that CC Creams are supposedly filled with colour-correcting properties, I was a little disappointed over the fact that I still had to use a concealer to go over my imperfections. I usually don’t need to do so when I use BB creams on my skin.
Overall, I’m pretty impressed with its staying power because it lasted all day long and it didn’t make me very shiny. I only blotted once with a tissue and I didn’t need any extra finishing powder to mattify my face. I’d say that this product is amazing when it comes to controlling oil and keeping your face shine-free. With a little concealer, this product could very much replace a foundation for comfortable everyday wear. If you have oily combination skin like mine, this is definitely for you!
Pros: Keeps face matte, long-lasting, controls oil, comfortable to wear, easy to apply
Cons: Thick and grainy, doesn’t cover up heavy imperfections
