A trip to a spa can cost you anywhere from RM100 to an exorbitant RM300. On top of forking out a lump sum of cash for a one-time self-pampering and self-beautification, there’s also the issue of taking time off your busy schedule to make the trip out for a facial. That is, if the said beauty centre is not already jammed pack with appointments.
Believe it or not, you can use the most basic ingredients found in the kitchen to give yourself simple yet satisfying self-pampering sessions.
1. Brown Sugar Scrub
Exfoliating is important to really scrub into your skin to get rid of trapped oil and dirt, free up clogged pores, and remove dead skin. Mix one tablespoon of brown sugar and a teaspoon of olive oil and stir it in your palm to create a paste (you may add more or less of either ingredient as needed). Then, massage the paste into your skin in circular motions. Finally, rinse off with warm water.
But no exfoliation is complete without hydrating your skin with a moisturizing mask after. Masks are especially great for soothing sensitive or dry skin. Slather away with the next do-it-yourself knowledge we’re about to impart.
2. Egg Whites & Yogurt Mask
Masks are great for balancing out your skin. Dry skin, especially, will benefit from hydrating masks (especially after a scrub down). Mix two egg whites (please, please remember to separate the yolk from the white) and two tablespoons of plain yogurt (do not use a flavoured one!) and apply evenly to face. Leave the mask on for a few minutes and then rinse in warm water. Pat dry and you’re done!
If you don’t have the time or the luxury (read: extra moolahs) for a facial, then maybe those were just the things you needed. Try it! You may thank us later.
