We’re probably overreacting and just need some space to rant, but like it or not, this car sales ad is just ridden with sexism!
Hadi is the owner of a manual Satria Neo 1.6, and he owns this car because he “is a man”. His words, not ours.
Hadi clearly means well when it comes to letting go of his car. As he states, he intends to use that money to provide shelter for his family, which he also considers manly. Sure, you could say it’s a manly thing to do, but women do things like that too and you don’t hear them calling it a “womanly” thing to do.
Another sexist notion in the ad is this:
“So, why settle for a car that is supposedly previously owned by a lady, when you can drive away in this man’s well-pampered, charming, manual-shifting, first love?”
Okay, we get it. A majority of women aren’t the best drivers when it comes to driving manual cars, but this is still an insult to women who do drive stick.
And “a car that is supposedly owned by a lady”? Is there something wrong with buying a car previously owned by a lady?
