Wide-leg trousers have made their way into the Spring/Summer 2014 trends list, and it goes beyond the classics. The runway saw various patterns, pleats, gaucho pants, floor-sweepers, and more. The pants are definitely worth trading in your skinny pants for, and all you’ll have to do is find the right ones for your body shape.
To help you catch up with 2014’s Spring/Summer trends, here are some tips for you to wear wide-leg trousers so that it flatters your figure.
Tall and Slender
Like skinny jeans, wide-leg pants can easily be a tall and slender girl’s best friend. Don’t limit yourself to plain colours. In fact, try printed wide-leg pants, or even wide-leg pants in different fabrics like silk.
Plus-Size
Wide-leg pants may seem like a bad idea on plus-size women, but when worn right, you can look polished and sophisticated. Find a good fit that hugs nicely around the butt and thighs. Look for a pair that comes with a nice crease in the centre. That will give you an illusion of slimmer legs, while looking taller. Pair it with some chunky heels and accessorize your neckline to create a balance.
Petite
If you have a small frame, don’t go for pants with too much of a flare. You don’t want to hide your figure in the fabric. Make your your pants fit snug all over and it will be able to show off your figure.
Pear-shaped
Find a pair of pants that’s neither too baggy nor too tight. A stretchy material could be your best friend, but be sure to try on as many as you can until you find the right one.
Apple-shaped
Apple-shaped women tend to have broader shoulders. Opt for a pair of pants with more volume, but make sure that it has a nice streamline so that it shows off your womanly figure. Pair it with V-necks or tops with low-necklines as it will help your shoulders appear narrower.
Extra tips:
1. Always wear a fitted top to balance out the flared pants. You can also do the same by wearing a statement necklace and chunky bracelet, along with a clutch.
2. Never buy pants with pockets in the front as they make your thighs and hips look bigger.
3. Pair your wide-leg pants with anything that comes with a heel. Flat pumps don’t really go well with wide-leg pants, but flat sandals could work if you’re tall.
4. Unless you’re tall and slender, keep the patterns and colours simple. Neutral colours are the best hues for wide-leg trousers.
5. For a chic and polished look, tie your hair up neatly into a bun, and pair it with light coloured statement earrings.
