It has been reported that two women from Myanmar were brutally murdered near a railway line in Kampung Setol.

The victims – Htay Htya Than, 21, was found with her throat slit, while another woman only identified as Than, 41, had stab wounds on her face and body. The women died on the spot; however robbery was ruled out as a motive since no valuables were taken from them. It is said that the women were former factory workers, and had been jobless. They were walking when they were attacked.

According State CID chief Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah, a passerby found the two women when he went to the scene. He had heard screams around 12.15pm yesterday.

ACP Mazlan said two Myanmar men in their 30s were arrested at a bus stop near the crime scene, just, approximately 30 minutes after the incident. The suspects were picked up following a description provided by an eye-witness.

“We have taken them to the Central Seberang Prai district police headquarters in Bandar Perda to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said.

Initial investigations also show that both the women had been living in the area for two years. The weapons however, have not been found.
