How Drinking Water Can Improve Your Beauty Regimen

Known as the elixir of life, water is often recommended by physicians everywhere as it allows the body to function. Water does not only give you a chance to experience a healthier physique, in fact, it is also proven to easily take some years off your face. Many people often question what could effectively erase fine lines and wrinkles, but as it turns out – hydration is the answer!

After learning that one in five women in the UK consume less than the recommended daily intake of water, 42-year-old mother Sarah Smith questioned just how much her skin would improve if she consumed the recommended amount of water for a month. As it turns out, it helped her take 10 years off her complexion.

Smith explains that dehydration caused the dark circles under and around her eyes, making her look older, while the profusion of wrinkles and red blotches made her look more exhausted.

The body requires a minimum of two litres of water daily to stay hydrated as it constantly expels water throughout the day. The lungs can expel up to four cups of water in a day, while perspiration and urination releases about another six cups of water.

On top of replenishing the fluids in your body, drinking plenty of water helps to flush toxins, waste and pollutants out of your body. This is why dehydration can easily affect your skin. Without water to eliminate these bad substances out of your body, it slowly comes to affect your skin too.

Before Smith embarked on a four-week challenge of drinking up to three litres of water a day, she claims that she looked up to 10 years older than she really was. “There are dark shadows under and around my eyes, which make me look exhausted, a profusion of wrinkles and strange reddish blotches, and my skin lacks any lustre. It looks dead,” she says. “Even my lips look shrivelled. This is all classic evidence of poor hydration, apparently. Every system and function in our body depends on water.”

Upon the second week of her challenge, she noticeably lost up to a pound, and the dark circles around her eyes seemed less pronounced. What’s even more shocking is that her husband also noticed that her cellulite on her bottom and thighs have diminished!

By the third week, Smith lost up to half an inch on her waistline, and her dark circles and wrinkles under her eyes have disappeared. Her skin is also noticeably plumper, nourished and more radiant. On the fourth week, her skin was exquisitely dewy, fresh and healthy.

In addition to obtaining wrinkle-free skin in a matter of weeks, drinking up to three litres of water can also reduce your chances of overeating and help in improving mental and physical performance. It even helps with heavy menstrual cycles.

Carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go and see a major improvement in your skin, body and mind. Another trick you can do to keep your skin hydrated from the outside is to use facial mists or sprays. Here are three DIY facial sprays you can make at home.
