A heavy thunderstorm and strong winds hit SS7, Petaling Jaya at around 5:30p.m. on Thursday, uprooting and snapping branches of some 120 trees. Some trees are even as old as 20 years.
The freak storm uprooted many trees along Jalan SS7/6 and Jalan SS7/1 in Petaling Jaya. The Petaling Jaya Municipal Council spokesman, Siti Mariam Muar said that the uprooted trees, mostly Jejawi and Semarak trees, blocked several roads in the area, causing minor traffic jams near the Kelana Jaya Stadium.
She continued, “We had to close several roads in the area to remove the trees,” and added the fact that the uprooted trees also caused damage to road signs and street lamps. Due to the damage of power lines, street lamps had to be shut off temporarily.
Thankfully a spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said that there were no casualties resulting from the heavy thunderstorm.
