The Star has recently reported that Pakistanis might be using Facebook to lure their kidnap victims. This allegation was made in the light of two local men who were kidnapped by several foreigners they befriended on Facebook.
According to the report on The Star:
“City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said several Pakistani men had allegedly used the Facebook social network site to invite gullible young men to be their friends. Next, they would meet up with their prospective prey and invite them to their house. The young men would then be held captive and the abductors would demand a ransom from their families for the victims’ release.”
Over the past two months, two local men were kidnapped. Three such cases reported over the last month involved young men with a “certain hobby” or “inclination”. He refused to elaborate.
Ku added that a school principle in his 40s was kidnapped and released after a RM5,000 ransom was paid by his family for his release in November 17. He said four Pakistani nationals aged between 30 and 40 were nabbed over the incident recently. Two were caught at Jalan Maarof, Bangsar, and the other two at Jalan Ketumbar, Cheras.
The Star added that the city police are also on the lookout for two couples as they were linked to an armed robbery at a club in Bukit Bintang on November 28.
