A 66-second video clip showing a police officer mistreating three men right outside a clinic in Bayan Baru has gone viral in the past few days. The video was uploaded on Facebook and it has generated thousands of likes, comments and shares.
Some of the comments include:
“Why Malaysia police can pukul orang????”
“Malaysia…one of the Samseng polis”
“Gangster berlesen”
“Malaysia Boleh”
“One Malaysia”
In the video, the policeman was seen slamming his helmet on the ground after getting off from his motorbike. He then yelled at two out of the three foreigners and asked them to squat down beside the third man, who was already squatting down in front of the policeman.
He was also seen slapping one of the three foreigners multiple times in the video and said in Malay, “You mau kurang ajar dengan saya? (You want to be disrespectful to me?)”.
The policeman also labelled the two foreigners as samseng (gangsters) and kurang ajar (insolent). He asked them to produce their passports but the two men failed to do so. The video ends abruptly when the policeman turned around and faces the smartphone that was used to record this video from across the street.
Penang officer chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Rahim Hanafi said the state police contingent disciplinary department has commenced an investigation on this case. He also said that the policeman has been transferred to the operation centre of Balik Pulau district police headquarters for pending investigation.
“We will not compromise on any wrongdoings committed by our men that could tarnish the image of the force. I have given orders to all the department heads and chiefs to carry out their duties in accordance with the standard operating procedures. Do not act above the law and beyond your job scope that could give the force a bad name,” he added.
