50 Shades of Grey may have been the butt of everyone’s jokes in 2012 and 2013, but the book and its series are growing to be one of the biggest pop culture phenomenon. The official film adaptation is already in the works, and now – you can imagine yourself as Anastasia Steele with some 50 Shades of Grey inspired lingerie!
Swedish fashion retailer KappAhl has teamed up with 50 Shades of Grey author, EL James to design a lingerie collection inspired by the erotic novel.
The line includes bras, briefs, silk negligees, and stockings in shades of gray, black and red. Staying true to the story, the collection also includes a black mask and a gray tie that inspired the erotic novel series.
Despite the novel series’ reputation for including bondage and hints of S&M, the lingerie collection hardly involves elements of leather, whips and chains. “Our collection was inspired by all of the million female readers of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, what we imagine they would wear and feel sensual in,” a spokesperson said. “We did not for a minute think about domination/leather aesthetic.”
The collection is extremely wearable, sexy and hardly carries themes of domination as you would expect from the book.
KappAhl made the move to produce the 50 Shades of Grey inspired lingerie since they shared the same demographic as their best-selling products – middle-aged women.
Say what you will about 50 Shades of Grey inspired lingerie, but it’s obvious that the decision is a piece of strategic marketing brilliance! After all, James has already pulled in nearly $100 million from the franchise this year, and she’s poised to continue earning thanks to the upcoming film adaptation.
