Like us, celebrities, too, face the harsh realities in life, and some of them include car accidents. Here’s a recap of some of the most famous celebrities killed in car crashes.
Princess Diana
Lady Diana Spencer, once the Princess of Wales, died alongside her fiancee, Egyptian magnate Dodi Fayed, and their driver in an underground tunnel in Paris in August 31st, 1997. It was reported that they were fleeing the paparazzi at the time of the crash. The car was believed to be moving at speeds of triple digits before it hit a concrete pylon, killing three of the car’s four occupants.
Jayne Mansfield
Jayne Mansfield was a major Hollywood sex symbol in the 50s and 60s. Mansfield was riding in a car with her manager, another man and her three young children who were asleep in the back seat, when the car rear ended a slow-moving tractor-trailer in the dark. All three adults in the front seat were killed in the accident. Mansfield’s children however, survived the accident with minor injuries.
Princess Grace of Monaco
Apart from being a style icon, Grace Kelly was a movie star who married a European prince and became a princess in real life. Princess Grace was driving along the highways of Monaco with her daughter Stephanie, when she apparently suffered a stroke and drove down a mountainside, killing her and badly injuring Stephanie.
James Dean
He was the hunk of 1950s cinema, and the original bad boy. However, his need for speed was possibly the one thing to have killed the handsome star. James and his friend were on their way to an auto rally when their car was involved in a head-on collision. Dean’s passenger was thrown out of the car, but survived with head injuries and a broken leg. However, Dean was almost decapitated, suffered a broken neck and had multiple fractures in his jaw, arms and internal injuries too.
Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes
Lisa Lopes will always be remembered for her contribution to one of the best hip hop and R’n’B group TLC. In April 2002, Lisa and nine passengers were driving on a two-lane road in Honduras when they were involved in a head-on collision. Lopes, who was driving, lost control and the vehicle began rolling. Lopes was ejected and was thrown out the car window, but died instantly from head trauma.
Paul Walker
Best known for his role in The Fast and Furious movies, Paul Walker passed away recently in a tragic accident in Santa Clarita, Los Angeles. Paul was the passenger in a two-seated Porsche Carrera GT when the driver lost control and slammed into a tree. The car then burst into flames, killing both the driver and the Hollywood star. Paul was just on his way back from a charity event to support the Philippines typhoon relief effort.
