The first undersea road in Singapore, also known as Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) is set to be opened at 9:00a.m. on Sunday, December 29th, this year. This undersea road is by far the costliest expressway ever built in Singapore, and costs S$4.3 billion. The whole project was completed within four years and this expressway has one of the widest tunnels.
The five kilometre expressway, costing S$860 million (RM 2.2 billion) per kilometre, has a 420m section that goes under the sea-bed, just south of the Marina Barrage. There are five lanes in each direction that will link motorists directly to the heart of Marina South through the new connections with Central Boulevard, Marina Boulevard and Maxwell Road.
