Our beloved city of Kuala Lumpur has been listed as one of the World’s Best Shopping Cities by CNN. To pinpoint cities around the world which deliver the most gratifying and enjoyable shopping experiences, the news portal consulted global experts such as fashion merchandising firm Donegar Creative Services and Marie Bergfelt, senior spokesperson for Global Blue, which publishes the Globe Shopper City Index.
They then judged the cities in four areas, using a one-to-10 scoring scale for each category. The categories include ‘Getting around’ – quality of public transportation, affordability and availability of cabs, transport time, ‘Value bargain’ – bargain opportunities such as sales and average prices, ‘Variety’ – number of available brands, range of shopping categories, quantity of upscale shops, department stores, boutiques, vintage retailers and market stalls and finally, ‘Experience’ – city beauty, quality of window displays and shop décor, friendliness and competence of clerks and service staff, dining and accommodation options.
Kuala Lumpur was listed amongst other cities around the world such as Seoul, Madrid, Dubai, Vienna, Paris, Hong Kong, London, Tokyo, New York and many others. According to their scale as mentioned above, Kuala Lumpur got rated with a 6 for ‘Getting Around, 10 for ‘Value’, 8 for ‘Variety’ and 6 for ‘Experience’.
CNN also listed the mall 1 Utama as the go-to place when tourists are visiting Kuala Lumpur, further stating that that the city offers “high-quality shopping, affordable prices and reliable sales”.
