The lead singer of U.K. rock band Lostprophets, Ian Watkins, has pleaded guilty to multiple child sex offences, including an attempted rape of a baby.
According to BBC, the 36-year old singer pleaded guilty to some depraved sex charges in Cardiff Crown Court in Wales on Tuesday (November 26th, 2013). He admitted to “three counts of sexual assault involving children and six involving taking, making or possessing indecent images of children and one of possessing an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal.”
Besides that, according to the South Wales Evening Post, two female co-defendants pleaded guilty to various sex offences against their own children. Watkins also admitted to an attempted rape of an 11-month old baby boy, who is the son of one of the co-defendants. Additionally, he admitted to planning the rape of a baby girl belonging to the other co-defendant.
The prosecutor, Christopher Clee said, “Ian Watkins was the lead singer of a successful band, The Lostprophets. He also, by virtue of his plea, accepts he is a determined and committed paedophile. He has engaged in serious sexual offences against two babies belonging to the female defendants in this case. Not only has he done so but he recorded and kept episodes of this abuse which were recovered by the police.”
The prosecutor also said that drugs had played a “significant part in his offending against children”.
DCI Peter Doyle, with the South Wales Police told reporters, “This investigation has uncovered the most shocking and harrowing child abuse evidence I have ever seen.”
“There is no doubt in my mind that Ian Watkins exploited his celebrity status in order to abuse young children,” he added.
Mr. Justice Royce called the jury and told them, “There will not be a trial in this case. The defendants have all pleaded guilty to nearly all the charges against them. The prosecution does not seek a trial in these circumstances.”
According to the Daily Mail, Ian Watkins and the two female sex offenders are to remain in custody and will be sentenced in December.
