After Leaving Abusive Ex-Hubby, Woman Gets Beaten Up by New Boyfriend

44-year old Mei can’t seem to find luck in her love life: both her ex-husband and current boyfriend have violently attacked her. Earlier this year, Mei had left her husband after he was physically abusive towards her.

Now, just one month after dating, Mei was beaten and scratched by her 62-year old boyfriend on Saturday, all because she had questioned him about a missing RM100 she had left on the table. She also mentioned that he even threatened to kill her.

“I was lucky that my neighbour heard my screams and had come to my aid,” Mei said. “All I wanted was a peaceful life. I didn’t expect that I’ll experience this with my boyfriend.”

Her neighbour called the police before she was sent to the Segamat Hospital for treatment.

Mei’s story is one of the many cases of women who are victims of domestic abuse in Malaysia. A national survey conducted by the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) shows that about 40% of  women over the age of 15 have been beaten by their partners.
