Facial mists are refreshing cocktails we make for our skin that give it hydration and aromatherapeutic sensation. They keep your skin refreshed especially when you’re flying, and they even make great make-up setting sprays! If you find that your make-up is looking a little too dull and cake-y, these mists will freshen up your look and keep your make-up from settling into fine lines and wrinkles. Furthermore, its hydrating properties keep your skin from producing too much oil.
A major concern among beauty junkies is that a lot of the facial mists on the market often contain synthetics and fillers, which can irritate the skin when applied too often. Fortunately, facial mists are absolutely inexpensive and easy to make at home, so we’re sharing our top three recipes that will bring the glow back into your skin.
Cool and Refreshing After-Sun Mist
The warm, humid weather often dries the skin up, and combined with sweat it leaves the skin dry, sensitive and damaged.
The key ingredient to cool and soothing facial mist is to use fresh and natural aloe very juice, and combine it with other cooling ingredients like cucumber juice for that burst of freshness. To make your own cucumber and aloe facial mist, here’s what you need:
- 3/4 cup of freshly-squeeze aloe very juice
- 3/4 cup of cucumber-infused water
- 1 drop of peppermint oil/essence
Simply combine the ingredients in a travel-size spray bottle, and shake well. You can also combine some rosewater to help reduce puffiness, or a few drops of lemon juice for its exfoliating properties that leave your skin feel softer.
Rosewater Make-up Setting Spray
Rosewater is one of the most luxurious scents, yet it’s also a floral fragrance that won’t overpower your nose. Pure rosewater makes a great facial toner on its own to keep your skin smooth and moisturized, but it’s also great to use as a make-up setting spray that gives you a healthy, dewy finish!
If you can’t find rosewater from your local store, you can make it yourself by following one of these two methods:
- Add a few drops of pure 100% essential rose oil into distilled water; OR
- Obtain a bag of organic rose petals and steep it in a bag of distilled steaming-hot water until it reaches room temperature. Strain the petals and store in a cool place.
When you have your own batch of rosewater, transfer it into several travel-size spray bottles and designate one for your make-up. You can also use rosewater on your hair to give it a fresh, floral scent.
Age-Defying Green Tea Facial Mist
Green tea come loaded with powerful antioxidants that help eliminate free radicals. Making a refreshing green tea facial mist, combined with the cooling power of cucumbers will help rejuvenate the skin and assists with the bad effects of exposure to UV rays! To make your own green tea spray, here’s what you need:
- 1/2 cup of freshly steeped green tea
- 2 drop of Vitamin E oil
- 3/4 cup of cucumber water
Combine two drops of vitamin E oil into the cup of green tea, then pour the cucumber water into the cup. Cover the top of the cup with a saucer or cling wrap, and then keep it in the fridge until it’s cold. Then, transfer the mixture into a spray bottle and store in the fridge until you need to use it. If you’re going out with it, just drop a few ice cubes so that the spray stays cool.
