After an over-the-top performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, former Disney tween queen Miley Cyrus decided to have a relatively low-key performance in Amsterdam during the Europe Music Awards on Sunday. She performed her song ‘We Can’t Stop’ dressed in a skin-tight silver outfit, playing on the event’s ‘intergalactic’ theme of the night.
But did you really think Miley would end the night without doing anything scandalous? Of course not! Proving again that she’s no longer the innocent Hannah Montana, the singer went on stage to accept an award for ‘Best Video’ (for Wrecking Ball), and proceeded to casually take out what seems like a joint out of a black Chanel purse. After lighting it up, she took a quick puff from the spliff and walked off.
Despite the fact that prostitution and marijuana is legal in Amsterdam, smoking indoors in the city is technically banned. According to the Tobacco Act of 2002, smoking cigarettes in public places including any office building, public transport, public space or night clubs are altogether banned. These rules don’t apply to smoking a joint but in 1976, the Dutch parliament decriminalized possession of less than five grams of pot-related products which gave rise to coffee shops offering a range of pot-related products that you can spark up in full view indoors or at the sidewalk table.
In response to the negative reaction after what happened at the EMA, Miley tweeted:
