Reigning pop queen Lady Gaga debuted a new single from her new album ARTPOP called Dope at the recent 2013 YouTube Music Awards. The performance is said to be one of Lady Gaga’s most emotional performances ever, as she was even seen singing with tears streaming down her face.
The performance piece was documented by the show’s artistic director Spike Jonze and fellow director Chris Milk. Seated at a grand piano and dressed in an oversized flannel shirt, a NASA cap and messy hair, Mama Monster poured her heart out and soul into this heartfelt ballad.
Dope is a song about someone she needs more than drugs, and the lyrics are fairly emotional too:
My heart would break without you/Might not awake without you/Been hurting low from living high for so long,” at which point she was shouting, practically on the verge of tears.
Dope was previously know as I Wanna Be With You, and Lady Gaga had even performed it during her set at the 2013 iTunes Festival in London. However, just a month later, she modified the song a little to turn it into a dark, serious piece.
Lady Gaga’s album ARTPOP is slated to arrive in stores on November 11th. You can also pre-order the album on iTunes here.
