Gombak district police has detained a former convict who stabled his wife to death, 16 days after he was released from prison. The incident took place at their home in Sungai Buloh when the 35-year-old man come home in a drunken state and accused his wife of having an affair with another man.
According to Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Abdullah, the suspect M. Pugumeswaran, used a 35cm-long parang (machete) to stab his 36-year-old wife several times.
“However, the victim, who was bleeding, managed to run to her neighbour’s house for help before dying several minutes later,” he said. Abdul Rahim added that the victim was still able to run to her neighbour’s house for help, but her husband managed to chase after her, stabbing her in the back.
The victim unfortunately, suffered excessive blood-loss, and fainted before succumbing to her injuries. When neighbors saw what happened, they told him off and he fled from the scene.
“The couple is said to have quarreled frequently and police are investigating the suspect’s previous criminal record,” Abdul Rahim said.
Two hours after the incident took place, the suspect turned himself in at Alam Jaya Police Station. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The suspect was released from prison over two weeks ago with previous conviction under Section 324 of the Penal Code for deliberately causing hurt using weapon or dangerous object and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
