At about 11.20am this morning, a delivery boy ran amok on a stabbing spree, stabbing two people to death and injuring two others in separate incidents occurring at the Gombak Putra LRT station and the Taman Melati Putra LRT station. It is believed that he is mentally unsound.
The incident occurred when the 26-year old suspect was delivering cigarettes to a sundry shop at the Gombak Putra LRT station. City deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa said that the suspect then stabbed the 60-year old sundry shop owner as well as her 40-year old helper, who is also a woman.
He then sped off in a white Daihatsu van towards Taman Melati.
“The suspect collided with another van driven by an elderly man in front of the Taman Melati Putra LRT station,” he told reporters at the scene.
Following that, when the driver got out to inspect his vehicle which was used to deliver mineral water bottles, the suspect then stabbed him three times, killing him on the spot.
“The suspect then got back into his van and drove another kilometre before ramming a Toyota Prius being driven by a teenager.
“He stabbed the teenager once and when the teenager tried to run off, chased him down and stabbed him two more times,” he said, adding that the teenager, believed to be a college student, also died on the spot.
He added that a crowd of onlookers then overpowered the suspect and apprehended him until the police arrived. The suspect was also heard chanting when he was being held back and the police have seized a ‘Rambo’ knife which was used by the suspect in the incidents.
