The four-year-old girl who was found crying and begging for food in Jalan Air Jerneh, Setapak last week might have been abused over the course of a few months. According to the police, Nandini (full name unknown) was abused by a family member, believed to be a grandparent, before running away when she could no longer stand it.
A passer-by was on his way home from work when he saw her crying, and upon approaching her, Nandini begged him for food.
The young girl is currently being treated at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and has been put in the care of the Welfare Department. The police also released a picture of Nandini in hopes of being able to track down her parents and other family members, whose identities still remain unknown. KL police CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said, “Despite releasing her photo to the media, we have not received any response from the public yet. We have interviewed the public and those living in the vicinity of where the girl was found for over a week but it appears nobody seems to know her.”
The picture of the young girl was horrifying and shocked members of the public as clear scars can be seen on her face. Medical reports also listed numerous other scars all over her body from wounds that were caused by injuries from pliers, hammer and a spanner.
If you know any information about Nandini’s parents, please contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
