The last time we met celebrity stylist and TV personality Jeannie Mai, she was hosting The VIP Fashion Night 2013 at Marina Bay Sands Singapore. Last week, she stopped by Kuala Lumpur to host the exclusive NBCUniversal 2014 Collection Preview, and we headed out to catch up with the bubbly stylista for some light-hearted girl time!
Question: As far as we know, Keeping Up with the Kardashians happens to be one of your favorite TV shows. What we want to know who your favorite Kardashian is!
Jeannie: Out of all the Kardashians, I really love Khloe because she’s sassy! I know her really well, and she’s really cool and a ride-or-die type of girl.
Q: Have you ever had experience hosting a reality TV show before?
J: I have television experience – I used to host a show on MTV; I also did little news bits in San Francisco, but I’ve never hosted an actual reality television show ever. However, I do have great experience with people; and that’s all that matters. I’m really focused on being present in front of the camera.
Q: What would you say is your favorite colour?
J: Yellow! Did you know that yellow is an intelligent and energetic colour? It is the only colour in the entire colour span scientifically rejuvenates people’s hopes. So it makes people feel hopeful, positive, and heal people too! It’s a really therapeutic colour.
Q: We’re beginning this transition to Fall, and a lot of trends are popping up. What’s a good make-up look that would be perfect for both fall/winter and spring/summer months?
J: Bold lips are a woman’s secret weapon! If you’re feeling low on energy or feel like people haven’t noticed you, throw on a bold lip colour! Whether it’s a matte red or a poppy pink – it’ll never go out of style. Just apply some bold lip color, some mascara or falsies, but not too much eyeliner or eyeshadow, it’s very very sexy! A clean face and a bold lip is a classic; and also very French!
Q: Who is your favorite celebrity in terms of style and fashion?
J: I really like Kate Middleton – she exudes a very polished, young and sophisticated side of her. Blake Lively – very fun and experimental. Cat Deeley too! She looks very beautiful and effortless. I also really love Christina Hendricks! I may not pick what she wears, but her posture makes it look like she chooses what she wears on purpose, and it’s very confident!
Q: If you could dress one celebrity for the rest of your life, who would it be?
J: I used to style Christina Aguilera, but I haven’t styled in such a long time. I think I would really like to style her again now that her body has changed so much. She’s a mother in her 30s – I would like to bring her a new sense of style now that her life’s changed.
What is your definition of sexy?
J: A lot of things can define sexy, but to me it’s having that smug smile to yourself know that you’re hot; Second is your posture that looks like you’re owning it; Third is loving all of your flaws and knowing that you’re absolutely “flawesome”; And fourth would be kindness. That is an absolutely sexy quality!
